Picked up this 2011 ranger and really like it but can i change the auto hubs in front to manual locks?
Am so used to the old 73 beast f250 highboy hubs and like the idea of allowing the front to roll freely when not needed.
Changed out the 94 f250 auto to manual hubs was easy, have not pulled the tires off yet to see if it could be done on the ranger.
someone else confirm, isnt the front end "live" on those all the time and only the tranfercase engages and disengages? I think its a different design that cannot be "disengaged"

So you really like the truck but are upset that you can’t “fix” something that isn’t broken? IMO, you should have noticed that there weren’t any hubs on the truck when you bought it.
The 2 Broncos (‘67 & ‘87) , F-150 and CJ have manual hubs but the B2 and ‘94 Bronco (sold) have auto hubs. Through my own fault I shock loaded the FSB hubs and broke them but I replaced them with another set of auto hubs.

Really? It has rims with centers covering the hubs, Its not that I did not know it has auto hubs. The question was can they be changed to manual lockers.
Some like the auto hubs, Some like manual hubs not trying to fix something not broken but tailoring it to my choice and usage not yours.
Just sell this truck that you didn't research before buying and buy some old POS turd from the 50's - 60's and be happy. Simple and done.
And another response with no real information. at least the last one did come back with a answer that was to the point.
So to answer my own question, Yes it can be done with a great deal of replacement parts and labor.
Now when your computer driven pile of sensors quits wiping your *** for you, I will just smile as i pass by in my old pos turd.
There is the problem, I did not request your opinion but seeking information.
To your response, Yes I would like to have gone with an older version to keep it simple but the price was good.
A one owner FX4 ext cab with just over 110k on the clock for 8500.00 as the dealer was only offering 8k as a trade in on a 19 model he wanted.
I did plenty of looking to find that pos turd you call it, And what was out there would have cost more to make it into a daily driver safe rig so I went with this for now.
Still looking for a good base to give an pos a new life.
