Anyone know of a good replacement filter for the tymar system or where I can get the Donaldson or Baldwin filters? the Deisel places around here don't carry the Donaldson or Baldwin application and Dale doesn't seem to answering emails. Might be on the road. Anyway....I need to change mine and don't have anything to replace it with.
Thanks for any help.
Gene
I buy my Donaldson replacement filters at my local Cat heavy equipment dealer. They need to order it, but if I plan ahead and order it on their stock orders (once a week) I do not pay shipping. You might want to try a marine dealer if there are any local to you, because the Donaldson filter is also used in marine applications. Baldwin has a web site with a dealer locater, maybe you can find a better dealer. I buy my Baldwin fluid filters at Kenworth dealers around where I live. Sometimes they need to order them, so the above mentioned ordering ahead of time applies here too.
gburkett...I tried several of our local big rig shops...none carried them in stock, but one guy was exceptionally nice and helpful so I called them and told them to order me one. he placed it with their order (they order 2 times a week) and called me 3 days later. He had it ready to go. I didn't have to pay any shipping. After talking to him and telling him about my buddies switching to the tymar system, he said they would just start to stock them since they aren't expensive. He said he'd try to keep 2-3 on hand, but if not, just call and he'd order. Luckily, they are also an International dealer...so hopefully, I will be able to buy any parts thru him too.
Thanks for the help guys. finally got ahold of dale and all is well in PSD land. Fisher, wish the deisel guys here would offer to keep some on hand. I'll just keep buying a couple at a time from dale. Did anyone else knopw that he carries all different kinds of parts for our trucks? Just about anything you want he has.
Thanks again to ya'all.
When on the NAPAonline webpage, #6637 turns up as an item for $8, im assuming thats not the airfilter. Im going to try going to a local truck store. When i walk in and ask for a Baldwin air filter, what specifics should i give them? I dont want to look dumb like asking for a Fram air filter (there are numerous applications and sizes). What im getting at, is what do i need to say as to not look like a clueless person?
tell em you want the baldwin filter part # PA2818...you can't be more specific than that...its a 8.5" x 11" open element air filter with a 4" intake. good luck.
Hey f350xlt460 I went out to the shop and looked. The NAPA part number is 6637, that's what it says on the box. Maybe just call your local NAPA store and ask for the air filter #6637. I'm sure there isn't any difference between the baldwin, donaldson or napa filters. Same manufacter, different retailer?
Yea, could be different NAPA companys. I just recently had alot of trouble getting my money back from NAPA for a starter that broke within 24 hrs of purchase in Nevada. I live in Virginia. I guess it cant hurt to call and ask for that part number. What are the deminsions of the filter? ID, OD, length?
all the dimensions are the same for the following filters and Napa or any other auto store ought to be able to get a cross reference from any of these numbes:
Napa # 6637 (the website this comes up as a spark plug, but
in the store they can get it right for you)
Fleetguard # AH1141
Donaldson # ECB085011 the guys in my area go by B085011
Baldwin # PA2818
Purolator # A45090
Cummins # 3912020
I thought about NAPA but According to Dale, the Baldwin and Donaldson have a patented media that the others don't. Now, taking into consideration that he is selling only these you can take it for what its worth but I think I will stick to the ones he recommends.
I think the biggest deal would be the filtration. Many on this board, and I am of the same opinion, believe that the K&N is not a suitable filter for a turbo diesel engine. Reason being is that the turbo sucks so much air that it allows some of the particles thru. Many are under the opinion that this is the quickest way to a dusted engine. I think the reason why nobody uses the K&N on a tymar setup is because the whole reason we switched from stock was for better filtration. That being said, the results I've seen put K&N below the Donaldson in filtering. Dodge specifically says not to use them on the Cummins engine. Just my .02
