Hi everyone, I’m a new user who has used this site a fair bit to figure out a bunch of issues with my 1996 Ford F150 4 x 4. That said I have come across an issue that I can’t seem to find an answer to. My emergency brake is extremely stiff And still not does not function properly as an emergency brake. It does not keep the vehicle from rolling at all.. I was advised to change the Emergency brake assembly and/or the Cable which I have done both and it does not remedy my problem. I have also adjusted the brake tension accessing through the rear brake drums. I need a functioning emergency brake to pass our safety inspection but cannot seem to figure this one out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Just for clarification you replaced the pedal assembly, all three cables, adjusted the drums and still don’t have a functional parking brake?

 

There are 3 cables in this assembly, the front one from the pedal to the balancer connection under the cab, and then 1 each to the wheels. All of these are notorious for seizing up so I bet your rear cables are the problem.
