ever since my cam swap i've been havin an ill effect. seems as i put my truck in gear it'll stall out, usually in reverse but in any drive gear. new plugs and wires, checked for vacuum leaks didnt find any. found out dist. was loose so i tightened it down and set it by ear. ran pretty good for a while but progressivly got worse. replaced TB gasket about 2 weeks later and it ran better for a week or so and now its back to the same old. didnt get to the EGR gasket yet but i did run it w/ the EGR V. line off and no difference. gsas mileage is about the same. dont suspect the fuel filter as it ran right before (it did stall when put in gear but maybe once a month). could it be the IAC and the cam just agravated it? also could it be the timings retarded to much (dont hear no pinging)? what way would i turn it to advance (i know it fires clockwise). i can also hear it backfire a little when i get on it, so im thinkin its to far retarded.
I just replaced my IAC (i know its different engine but it worked) 'cause of my rough idle. It'd stick too high on rpm's, constantly revved up and fell on ignition and terrible in traffic. replaced IAC and all is well. It was easy to do my IAC, $65 dollar part from autozone. Hope this helps! -wb
Check the Timing, Vacuum leaks can cause it too.
Do a compression check also. Low compression on one or more cylinders will cause a rough idle.
A symptom of low cylinder compression is, Unfortunatly blowby. If there is extra pressure in your crankase it is coming from the cylinders.
The timing would cause pinging only if it where ADVANCED too much.
Counterclockwise with the distributor to advance the timing.
