Truck stalling/rough idle/ random acceleration?!
A week after buying it on my way back from a 600 mile round trip, there was 2 times when the truck "hick-up-ed" at around 75 mph. Didn't kill the truck, but I definitely noticed. Assumed right off the bat that it was a cps. And planned on replacing when needed. Went out and bought a new cps the next day but, as there was no more symptoms, I tossed it in my glove box and planned to fix when needed.
Yesterday while driving to work, (about 5 miles.) It started idling rough at stop lights. Before I left work I idled the truck for around 15 mins and noticed that it had another hiccup while idling. On the drive home, it lurched and died while driving but started back up. I assumed it was the cps but, as I was in a hurry, I told myself I would change it at work I'm the morning.
I almost didn't make it to work... Died on me twice and was lurching all over. As soon as I had a free moment I popped out the old cps (which had been replaced once before but looked like some weird knock off brand.) And popped in my new one. Thought that things would be fine from them on and went about my day.
And then...
Went to start, put her in drive, drove about 50 feet, all of a sudden its idling rough, then it takes off like a bat out of hell. Rpms jump up to about 2250 out of the blue, black smoke billowing out, etc. I put it in neutral, and it slowed to a rough idle. I turned off. Started again, and it idles now. Idles better than it had in awhile.
Driving home, I had to drive for about 30 mins this time to get to some other stuff first, it idles rough but only dies one time, an occasional hiccup but not too bad. I've ordered a new icp but I'm wondering if I've missed something else?
Truck came with a banks turbo, banks big Hoss tuner, banks exhaust brake and banks trans module.
I did find oil in the icp sensor plug but when I pulled the plug the rpms jumped and settled. Currently the icp is disconnected and I'm still having the rough idle /driving issues.
Help me please...?
Bumping it to the top, so that the FTE members with a lot of experience with the 7.3L PSD engine in the 99-03 genre can have an opportunity to see this as yet unanswered question, and offer some help.
Yep get something like this and Forscan app on your android. If you have a fruit phone you'll need a dongle that uses wifi instead of BT. Pull them thar codes cowboy.
You can run it with the ICP sensor unplugged, won't hurt anything.
