new cam

i just installed a comp cam with 262 duration and 270 durationand .493 and .500 lift. in to my 1992 f-150.. and while breaking it in the headers started to glow bright orange.. any one have any idea what it could be....

1992 ford f-150
dart heads
hedman headers
power tower
mass air conversion
2.5 inch flow master exhaust
9:1 compression ratio
351w

timing too far advanced can cause this I believe. are you sure your valves/rockers were adjusted properly? that would be the only two things you would have touched that might cause that effect. positive you installed the cam straight up? Later and good luck

actually, it is probably because of to little advance. This is because some fuel isn't burnt in the combustion chamber and spills into the exhaust were it is ignited and causes extra heat. this happened to mine and my fresh header paint chiped off!!

I have also heard of a rich condition causing this as gamehunter mentioned. It all points to valve adjustment and timing so you don't have too many things to worry about as far as trouble shooting. Just start over check your timing and if that doesn't work then check your valve adjustment. Let us know if you get it fixed, later
