hey all, i'm new to this board, i just recently bought a 90 Ford with 100,000k on it. It runs nice, it's my first Ford since my 77 that my Dad gave me. Damn I missed that 351M, sniff sniff. Drove a 75 and it broke down on me too much so I went to an S10. Try to find them in the ol' junk yards!!!
So I'm back with a Ford, I don't think I'll have too many problems with it. So I'm here and I would like to ask if there is a spec page I can go to. Or can someone belt out to me the reliability of the 90 Fords, and tell me the horsepower of the 4.9L and its history. And tell me why there isn't a passing gear in it? It's an EFI 3 speed auto and for the life of me I can't figure out why it won't kick down.
the kickdown is probably not adjusted correctly. i am not positive but i think this is done with a switch on the efi models. you may want to post this in transmission section for more input.
You can go over to http://www.carpoint.com and run a used car search on your truck. It will pull up data on the the most frequently reported problems for your vechicle and lots of other info.
90Ford, 4.9 inline 6 is a very good engine. I have had three of these engines last me 15 years without doing anything big to them. My trucks are used in construction related work. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you. Change that oil every 3000 miles. As for the trans, it is probably out of adjustment. Check and make sure the vacuum line to the trans is secure. It can play with the action of the trans. The line should be clean and not have any trans fluid in it. Good luck.
