My 225/16 LT tires have worn out on my 71 F250 Camper Special 390 and I want to go with a new look. I want to replace the stock rims (Split rims?) and "Dog Bowl" covers so I sourced some "Alcoa" type rims from another 1971 8 bolt Ford. I also want to go with Passenger tires rather than LT tires. No offense to anyone but I don't want the "LT" look, I want the "fat tire" "Muscle Truck" look. I went to a tire shop yesterday and the guy said I should not go with the P 265/70/16 I want because I MUST get LT tires. He said he would mount and install them but it would void the warranty. I don't tow anything or carry a camper. I don't haul rock or anything else that is heavy. My truck is for dump runs, Costco runs and other light duty chores etc. At the same time I understand Load Ratings and want to be safe. Does anyone know if I can run Passenger tires on this truck? If yes what are the "Fattest" or widest tires I can run? I've though about selling this rig and finding a Gen 5 F100 short bed to get the look I want but those are getting harder and harder to find and I love this 71 CS so much! Any advice or recommendations are most welcome and I hope everyone is happy, safe and healthy!
Run from this tire store. You understand what you need. In 1971, the lowest GVW for an F-250 was 6100 which was barely above the level of a 1975
F-150, so that shop is full of idiots.
Whatever tire you get make sure it's E-rated 10 ply, no need to scrimp. I've been running 265 75R16's BFG's for 5yrs 30k mi. and they still have 50% of the tread left.
