Wired up an Interior Light Kill Switch for Camping

We sleep in our Ex while camping and one of the most annoying things was the interior lights would come on and stay on any time a door was opened. Need to pee at 3am? Get ready to wake everyone up!

I pored over the factory wiring diagrams and found a way to put a kill switch inline on the interior lights.

Disclaimer: This is all true for a '02 Excursion, your wiring may vary

You need to find the Black+Light blue wire that comes out of the instrument cluster microprocessor (A30, through connector C220c), which is located behind the instrument cluster.

If you cut that wire, and route it through a switch, it's a simple complete cut-out for the interior lights. Off = off all the time no matter what. On = functions as factory intended.
(I'm using the F650 upfitter panel for interior lights, driving lights, whip and E-locker)

I was just thinking yet again the other day how much I need to do this. I'll have to find the time to check it out on my 2000 and see if it's the same. Thanks for the info and pics

I did this on an 03 Excursion Limited. My door ajar light kicked 2 years after I replaced all the sensors. This fix saved me $50. in sensors and is very convenient

Light Switch on Drivers door

My Excursion Camp setup
when camping Routed the switch to the drivers door so I can turn it on or off when camping from front or back.

Better question is how the heck do you remove the sensor from the latch mechanism?
