Im thinking of buying a 1986 ford full size bronco. It would cost me about 1500us the body is in great shape, with some rust but nothing extensive. Even the tails gate is in good shape, just a few small spots on the doors. The vechile has 195000 miles on it so im thinking it would be good to rebuild both the engine and transmission. I dont have the money to do it in one shot though.
it depends how does it drive now. is the motor smoking, knocking using oil. if not then i would drive it . same thing goes for the tranny, if they have been taken care of they should be fine until you can save enough to do both at the same time . if you dont want to do that rebuild the tranny first. otherwise if you do the motor first it will probably cause fallure to your tranny because of the new power your putting threw it. but doing the tranny first it would help the motor thats in there last a bit longer.
Yeah both seem to be running decent, that was what i was thinking, if I rebuilt the motor the tranny might not be able to take it. Neither is that bad but both componenets are very "tired" I want to have a good reliable runner.
IMO - If both are running decent, keep running it. Save your $ and do both at the same time or replace the first to fail and keep your foot out of it 'till you can replace the other..........Then again, might get a better deal than the 1500 if you talk it down more to the sailer, i mean seller - Go forward and charter new water, only in a bronco
