While I was working today my wife inquired about a 2005 F250 4x4 with 6.0 automatic. I know the early 6.0 had issues so I told her to ask if the head gaskets had been changed and the seller replied it had studded heads. Does this mean he has upgraded it to newer specs? I've only had older Ford trucks so I am not too familiar with this engine. It's a F250 Lariat 4x4 crew cab four door with 6&3/4' bed and 148,000 miles. Asking $9600.
Thanks. Like I said I've only had older ones and I knew there were head gasket issues with the 6.0. Anything else I should look for when I go look at it? How is the price?
I would look for blow by. With truck running take off the oil fill cap and make sure no white steam is pouring out of it. A little steam is okay. A lot of steam is not good at all. Price is good I bought a 2003 6.0 4 door without studs for 9300 also has 209k miles. The truck I bought was a good deal so you are getting a good deal in my eyes.
The 6.0 is a good engine if maintained properly and not turned into a hotrod. Read through the Tech folder and decide if it is good you. If you are not a knowledgeable owner mechanics will get richer and you will get poorer. There are many 6.0 with high mileage that have not been studded and run well.
The factory used Torque to Yield head bolts on the 6.0L PSD. They can only be used once.
Replacing the TtY bolts with head studs is a very beneficial upgrade. Studs are much stronger and provide superior and repeatable clamping force. This significantly reduces the occurrence of blown head gaskets.
