I've seen several diagrams showing typical bed boards length, and width.
However I haven't seen any information on what the typical gap is between the boards. Does anyone know?
I'm trying to make an accurate drawing of what the 9 board layout would have been on Canadian trucks, however 70 year old boards only give up so much information.
The gap was dictated by the diameter of the bolt that mounted the boards to the crossmember and the width of the slats.
And that's my problem. Without knowing what an average gap is, its very hard to reverse engineer the width of the boards.
Canadian beds are complicated. I believe there was three board sizes, a wide center board, three narrower boards on each side, and then a third size for the edge boards.
I initially did a design with a 7/16" gap, and then a second one with a 5/16" gap. The difference in gaps changes the widths of the boards.
