Hey there, I'm about to pull the trigger on buying the LMC 38 gallon fuel tank and all the bits and pieces that go with it for my '74 F-100 4x4.
I wanted to make sure that I am measuring my rear frame correctly for fitment.
I think that you measure at the widest point and NOT in between the overhangs on each side....
I believe that I have the wider 37" Frame, can you guys confirm?
Yes, yours is the 37 1/2" wide version, along with the late '77.5 and '78 and '79 F250 trucks. The number is usually rounded up to 38" by most companies. Or at least it used to be. The narrower one was considered a 34" frame width, which was actually 33 1/2 inches.
It's the F250 HIghboy 4wd trucks of your vintage that had the narrower "34 inch" frame width. And I think the Super Camper Specials with the right side mounted spare tires.
But I can see by your tape how it could be confusing, since the inside measurement is really close to the narrower one!
However most measurements are taken from the outside as far as I know.
Is the vendor asking you for the "34 inch" or "38 inch" measurement? If so, you have the wider one.
Or are they using some other rating when sizing the tank?
Yeah, the measurements are pretty close that's why I wanted to double check.
LMC said that their 38 gallon tank wont fit the smaller 34" frame width and I wanted to make sure before spending all that money on it.
Thank you for confirming my suspicions, much appreciation.
