I just learned there are specific 02 sensors (Bosch) for automatic and manual transmissions. I also found that the set I bought about a month ago is for a vehicle with an auto tranny; I have a manual.
Does anyone know what the difference between the two is?
Never heard of this for either of my Fords. Autozone doesn't list different kinds of O2 sensors for manual or automatic applications on an '87 BII. Where did you hear this from? For an '87 BII, there is only one O2 sensor and it should be the same whether you have an automatic or a manual transmission.
I noticed the different sensors when at the Advance Auto Parts website. www.advanceautoparts.com
After seeing this I went to the Bosch website. After entering information about your vehicle, they show a list of sensors for that vehicle. They also indicate if a particular sensor is for an automatic or manual transmission. You can check it out at http://www.bosch.com
I'm just wondering how a sensor designated for an auto trans would effect performance in a vehicle with a std trans.
This has been bugging me so I called Bosch and talked with a tech rep. He wasn't exactly sure why there's a difference either. Said it could have to do with the material the sensor is made of, the length of the 4 wires coming off the sesnor, etc.. He said he wasn't aware of any performance issues by using one or the other. He also confirmed that what I have are the correct sensors. That's the bottom line for me. Still curious though of the differences between sensors for auto trannys and manual trannys.
Interesting. When I tried the parts lookup on Bosch's website, it gave me two choices for my BII: OEM style with the connector, or Universal style that you have to splice into the connector. Didn't make any mention of auto or manual transmission.
In other words, I don't know any more than Bosch's technical representative.
