After months of searching and debating on exactly what I wanted, I decided I didn’t want a completed restoration, that’s for me to do. I found this truck in Mass. went up last week with my wife’s cousin, a car guy too. We came to an agreement, so I drove up, rented a uhaul trailer and brought her home.
She’s got some bugs for sure. First on, my neighbor guided me off the trailer and he noticed there were no brake lights. 2 hours of tracing wires and checking voltages and I determined the blinker wasn’t passing voltage from the brake light switch to the lights. Just a loose screw in the blinker switch.
next one, and this may take a bit longer. The throttle linkage is loose and if you don’t squeeze the pedal like these eggshells on it, she jumps ahead. Gotta look into that one soon.
Looks nice Bob. And it is a project but one you can drive while you work on it. Good news about the brake lights!
Why is there diamond plate below the headlights? Covering up rust holes?
exactly, in Mass you can’t pass inspection with rust holes, so he just riveted the diamond plate on. At some point I’ll pull the front clip off and get a better look, either a new grill or weld plates in.

Congratulations on the "new" truck. It looks like it's in good shape, to be 72 years old. Someone has taken pretty good care of it.
If cars in Kentucky required an inspection that included rust, 20% of the cars around here wouldn't be on the road.
I’m going to use this thread for updates as I restore her.

repaired the brake lights.
replaced the pivot pin in the shift tower. Actually not that simple. The hole was really worn so I drilled out and put in a larger pin that I made from a steel rod, then filed the slot in the shifter to fit. Far better shifting.
I decided to keep the shorty running boards for now, I I’m pulling them off and refinishing. Pics coming soon.
