Just purchased a 2001 SuperCrew 4.6 with 64K. I know the mileage is a little high for the year but seems to be in great shape. Picked her up on Thurs, all was going well untill we got some rain this weekend. Now she skips like she starving for fuel. I'm no mechanic by any strectch of my imagination. I called the dealer and he said to bring it in. He thinks maybe coil pack or something like that? Has anyone had this problem before, any ideas??? I'm getting a little nervous....
Hi and welcome to FTE
It sounds like the rain may have gotten on to the rear COP (Coil On Plug). These engines seem to be real sensitive to moisture.
Your truck had a coil on each sparkplug. Usually the rear 2 cause the most problems because water can get down past a leaking hood seal and puddle in the spark plug pocket. This inturn shorts out the coil to ground and eventually burns it out.
Have you gotten the service engine soon light yet?
If so, run it by AutoZone and they will scan it and tell you what is wrong. It will probably say misfire cyl #4 is that is the case.

Thanks for the info. No, I haven't gotten the check engine light. That is the same question he (the dealer) asked. I think I would have had a bird if it did come on. I'm dropping the truck off tonight. Hopefully have it for tommorrow. I'll post the outcome.
Just got back in from lunch. Took the truck for a ride to Autozone. Wouldn't ya know it, the check engine light came on. I had them run a diagnostic test and it came up with bad spark on cyl. 7. Is that one in the back, like you said? The sputtering is much worse now. I barely made it back to the office. Now my dilemma is whether or not to drive it to the dealer. It is about 40 miles away. Am I doing more harm to the truck by driving it like this? What should I do??
