Thanks for the info on the M and +/- guys, mine sorta did something similar over the weekend pulling the trailer. I was able to get
it to upshift by hitting the throttle. I also used M for the first time, locked it in 5th for a couple of hills. It held 65 instead
of going from 6 to 5 to 4 all the time.

You don't even need to go to M....just hit the - button on the shifter while in Drive and it will drop to 5th and lock out 6th gear. When you're back on the flats, hit the + button and it will allow 6th gear again
So how many folks are running to the full 150K change interval?
There's probably not too many people with that many miles on their trucks yet. 4 years old for an early 2017, would be about 37k+ miles a year.
The '11-'16 guys would be the ones to ask.
I just hit 20k on my truck, and I'll probably change it around the 75-80k mark...

I find it odd that the trans doesn’t have a shorter interval listed in the “Special Operation Conditions” section. I’d figure 150,000 for normal and maybe 75,000 for special. I guess since Mercon LV is synthetic, it lasts forever! I figure I’ll try the 150,000 and see how it goes. Unless the color or smell tells me it’s time to do it sooner!

I am aware of that but thanks. My 'issue' is trying to keep the truck from dropping into 4th all the time on inclines that I think it could/should hold fine in 5th.

I kind of figured that. I just rolled over 120k on mine and was thinking about having it done.

That's what I was expecting too. A "standard use" interval and "severe" like they have with the engine oil, but nope. This truck was towing most of it's life, but the fluid is still colored as normal and doesn't have any odd smell to it so I might just keep running it. Since it's a F450 the 4:30 gears probably reduce the overall load on the transmission compared to someone that tows heavy with 3:55s too.

No way will I wait for 150K, my plan is swapping out oil pan for one with a drain, changing the filter and fluid at 30K then just doing periodic fluid drain. I have a had time believing the fluid is good for 150K?
I think the trans fluid is capable of going much farther 150K (sold my highlander with 300K and I never touched the trans fluid). My oil can also go much farther than the 9K + that I run but I choose to not go beyond that (thinking of shortening to 7.5 - 8K).
I did a drain, filter replacement and refill on my trans at 60K. Now that I'm at 90K, I plan on a drain and refill. I might send some off for testing just for curiosity.

If you ask me thats crazy and anybody that does it especially if they tow a lot is nuts for following that. I do 50 on everything under the truck but Im a maintenance freak but all my stuff last and when I get rid of something everybody that likes used stuff wants it.
So how did you determine it got stuck in third? Did you attempt to give it throttle? Throttle is required in TH to overcome the downshift strategy and often its more throttle than you would expect.
By more throttle than you would expect it's really way, way, way more throttle than you would expect.
