We got a very brief, intense rain event Sunday morning. The rain gauge says about 1/4 inch, in about 10 minutes. We are coastal, so things never dry out very much. The areas where the fires are is in the fog zone, and was shrouded in fog just a week or so ago. So the good news is that the fires are burning very slowly. They are 0% contained, and I don't believe they had anyone working on them until yesterday. One person saw a bulldozer on a trailer down in Pescadero, and another person saw a helicopter make at least one dump from the Pomponio reservoir.
What we thought was one or two or three fires appears to be seven or eight or ten fires now known collectively as the CZU August Lightning Complex (https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents/20...tning-complex/). It's estimated to be ~~ 1,000 acres now.
I took this picture from our deck this morning, which only shows the little fingers bleeding over this side of Butano Ridge.
Air quality in Monterey and San Benito County are bad, like a lot of other areas of Cali.

My son works for Cal Fire and it's his last day off before getting slammed. He's out helping evacuate livestock for those being affected by the River Fire.

Relatively close. We were given mandatory evacuation Monday night at 11:30PM. We got out by 3AM. The good news is that the main body of the "CZU August Lightning Complex" is moving SE (sort of away from us). I took this picture Monday night, about an hour after sunset but before the evac order. Hard to fathom, but it is a 4 to 5 mile stretch of Butano Ridge showing a wall of smoke being lit from behind by a wall of flame.

Good to hear you're ok. Hopefully they can start to get a handle on it.
Thank you very much. I can not express how nice everyone has been on this little adventure. When we got to the Saratoga CVS at 3:30AM (we now call it Chateau de CVS), we were immediately greeted by 3 squad cars with 6 officers/deputies. They assessed our situation and told us to relax and get some rest. After sun up, Safeway employees came around and handed out bags of bottled water.
BTW - it's hard to get a sense of scale for that photo I just posted until you use a scope or binoculars to see "giant" Sikorsky helicopters dropping a couple thousand gallons of water. They are like tiny little gnats spitting on a bonfire.
