Hi there, good for you -thinking outside the box a bit!
I upholstered my bench seat with a brown broadcloth wool. I used wool because I found the vinyl very hot and uncomfortable to sit on. Wool breathes, is a natural and very tough fabric especially broadcloth and has historical precedent in old fords. I did think of leather but cost and it being just as or similarly non-breathable than vinyls I passed on it. But it might be a good idea. I know it would look great! They make leathers especially for auto use they’re probably more puncture resistant and the like?
I then had the upholsterer make up a basic two piece cover that slips over the seat and bench , sewn together from old sail covers I saved, it’s a Sunbrella fabric, I actually like that even better as it’s all worn faded and such. I got that idea from the gentlemen with the coast guard panel van on here his name escapes me now?
Here's my 49 F-1. No leather, but the seat is 1990 Ford Ranger regular cab mounted on the original 1949 seat tracks. The original seat is very straight up so I modified the seat mounts so that the Ranger seat was reclined some. There is still room behind the seat for the original tool tray and gas tank plus I had pockets sewed into the back of the seat to store stuff.
