Hey guys so I was working under my truck (2002 7.3 PowerStroke Excursion) the other day and saw that there was oil on my downpipe and traced it up as far as I could see to the back of the turbo. Truck runs great when its warm but starting it in the morning it has a ton of white smoke for about 3-5 min, and I know what you're thinking, all old diesels have white smoke on a coldstart but I live in Southern California and it is about 70° all the time and it used to start fine. Truck has 210k miles with a TS 6-position tuner and Banks exhaust and airbox. Ive heard many people saying that the smoke could be from the oil in the turbo. The leak is about a small drop every 10-30 secs and I just don't want it to get worse or cause future issues if I can do something about out now. Please let me know if you know ANYTHING about it. THANK YOU!
Turbo may need to be rebuilded, buy a 360 degree rebuild kit from reputable seller.
To be sure, you can check the turbo axial play from the compressor side.
If you have basic mechanical skills you can do the rebuild by yourself.
