Good morning guys. I am converting my canister oil filter to a spin on from Mid Fifty. Does anyone have the torque value for the adapter plate. 279 lincoln OHV thanks
Thanks John. Called Dennis Carpenter. His guys said he really does'nt know of any spec. Suggested a torque spec like a manifold bolt. I will stop in tomorrow at NAPA machine shop. They are a good bunch and I am sure they will have a good idea.
Have you checked the clearance on the adapter to your exhaust pipe? When we swapped from car manifolds (Lincoln 317) to the truck rams horn manifolds our exhaust system wouldn't allow a spin on filter to clear for servicing and ended up going back to a cartridge style. Very possible the adapter I have is a different style than yours also.
I have a feeling this is one of those installations that doesn't really have a torque specification. If it were mine, I'd get all sealing surface really clean, assemble the adapter to the block and sung it down. You don't want to reef on it so as to start warping the plate though. It will have to be one of those torque specs where its "tight enough to hold but not so tight as to break" kind of thing. As for the filter interfering, I have the rams horns on a 292 and no problem with the FL-1A. Motorcraft FL300 or Wix 51085 are shorter if it comes to that. Just hand tight is good.
