Maybe I should elaborate a bit - if there's two lanes, and I can get over, I'll let the idiot by just to get rid of him. If there's 4 or 5 lanes, he can go around me - I'm already travelling over the speed limit.

Seeing as how the speed limit is just that, technically there's nothing wrong with going exactly 65MPH in any lane, so my travelling 9-10MPH over the limit is acceptable.

If you're in the left lane passing someone going 65, thats fine. When you have passed him.. move back over to the right to keep the lane clear. If someone wants to do 90, that is their choice. You do nothing but enrage the guy when you won't move. If you stay there purposely, watching the guy get more and more steamed... thats rude and inconsiderate. Now this jerk is going to pull some stupid move, possibly cutting other cars off to pass you on the right. Sure this guy doing 90 is travelling at risk to himself and others... so do you really want this guy right behind you anyways? Pull over, let the guy fly by doing 90, then hope that you see him pulled over by a state trooper a couple miles up the road nailed for speeding. Then who has the last laugh?

Useage of the left lane is to pass. By insisting that others accommodate you is egotistical and dangerous. GET OUT OF THE WAY! That 18 wheeler coming at 80mph will make a mess out of you.

I suppose you guys do have a point. I'll start moving over to accomodate the idiots the same way I accomodate the morons on the ricerockets.

Speaking of that, funny story - about 2 years back, there was some guy on a ricerocket, doing wheelies at 90-100MPH down highway 50. About 5 minutes later, he spilled. Had to be flown out on a helicopter.

To this day, I can't help but laugh whenever I think about it. I love seeing stupid people getting hurt or killed while doing stupid things.

So from now on, I'll the let the stupid people operate and hope I get treated to some more entertainment

Someone will ALWAYS want to go faster than you- let them. That way, THEY are the one to get the ticket, not you. Besides, you can always pull in right behind them and give 'em a taste of their own medicine, if you know what I mean........

Of course, there's only one way to cure all this. Go buy a 1965 Galaxie sedan, bolt a couple of 2x12's to the front bumper, and have at it! Judge, jury, and executioner, all in the same driver's seat. Boy, if it were my last day on Earth.........

That would be awesome - reminds me of that guy that stole the tank and went on a rampage in California about 10 years ago.

That was cool.

Matt,

Because the most left lane is considered a PASSING Lane only.
I would say do what I do, use the left lane to pass then get back into the right lane until you need to pass the next vehicle.

laugh away

Hmm, I am not sure why anyone could enjoy another person being hurt so badly that they had to be flown out in a helicopter. I am happy to share the road with others and certianly do not wish that anyone be hurt regardless of their foolish actions. Like us, he has a mother, father, and other loved ones. Would you consider your death or dismemberment on a highway as a 'funny story'? I doubt your family would be laughing.

the left lane is the passing lane, you shouldn't hog it in your truck. I hate people that do that especially people who do the speed limit in the left lane. You will find that many of those people sailing by at 80-90 are cops in unmarked cars. I sail along in the right lane about 10 mph over all the time, and the cops don't give me any grief.

The way I see it, if you're doing something stupid, then that's what happens. Just like the rednecks that end up shooting each other because they get drunk and start playing with guns - it's sad, but they're idiots. End of story.

I feel bad for his parents, because it must be embarassing to have a kid who's that stupid, but that's how it goes. It sucks for the guy, but maybe he learned his lesson?

I'm going to try doing that, but I think the problem is that many people don't see the left lane as the fast lane, they see the right lane as the slow lane. The right lane gets clogged up with people going 65, so I would end up spending 90% of my time in the passing lane regardless.

Now, if there's a hole and a guy who really wants to get by, I'll dip over and let him pass. We'll see how that works.

I can't wait until we have the robotic cars that drive for us

Always move over to the right at your earliest opportunity and yield to the faster traffic. You are breaking the law by not doing so. It does not matter if they want to go 1 mph faster or 50 mph faster. You might want to go down to the DMV and pick up a driving handbook and review the laws and rules of the road.

Kind of off topic, but how many of you have HOV lanes in your area? I never have problems with anybody when I'm in the HOV.

So I can truck along in the left lane, but if somebody wants to go faster, I have to let them by? I can live with that. The main reason I travel in the left lane is because I can do so uninterrupted - everyone who has to merge on or off the highway can do so without having to maneuver around me (My exit is all the way at the end). By driving in the left lane, I can cruise along with having to dodge people coming off of the on ramps or having to worry about somebody dipping across 4 lanes to hit their exit.

Are we all in agreeance that I can camp in the left lane (at 75MPH) as long as I get out of the way for faster traffic?
