Broken spring (not a leaf spring)

Anybody know where this spring goes? It's about 23 inches long and fell of the undercarriage of my 77 F250. I was thinking that it might go to the parking brake cable?

Yes looks like the tension (pull back) spring. When you set the emergency/park brake that springs gets stretched out. And when you release the brake, that spring pulls back on the cable going to the cab. The bracket set up in the diagram is for a 1/2 ton.

I picked mine up from the "HELP!" section from autozone. They sell it as a general spring, I just cut the one side off and bent it too my length. They have a few different sizes.

No Autozone here in Germany and the local parts stores don't carry anything for classic american vehicles. Hell, it doesn't seem like they have anything I need for my Audi either! I don't know how it is now, but it seems like I remember that you used to be able to go into a parts store and actually get the part you need and fix your car the same day. I know they can't possibly stock all parts for all cars, but it seems like they don't even have the basics anymore. Thanks for the info though.

Well hang in there, I am sure ND can get you the part # and or the dimensional specifications of the spring and then you can locate a similar spring over there.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll have to try to find something close and modify it to fit properly.

Hey ND, any info on the specs for the parking brake equalizer spring? I'd like to look into getting one special made over here and would like it to be as close to original as possible. Thanks.
