Heater core..

Anyone on here have a service manual that you might be able to scan for me. I'm up at college and my heater core went out on the way home. I'm going to have to try and put one in in the parking lot. I'm looking for the part on how to get it out.....Thanks

Ryan

After you take out the glove box you will be looking at the heater core housing. Take off all of the hex screws and the blend control wire. Some of the hex screws are a little difficult to get to but not too much trouble. When you take off the housing cover you will find the heater core just sitting in there. It is not attached to anything but the heater hoses at the firewall. When you install the new one you will probably need a buddy pushing on the heater core when you push on the heater hoses. I used my young son for that job. All in all it is not a very difficult fix. It took me about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Good luck.

does it come out the back or the top of the housing? The pictures show that it comes out the top for a 95.

If you're in trouble and need to just get it running, just get some heater hose and loop it from one outlet on the pump to the other to bypass the core. That will get you home.

Just don't buy the cheap $20 replacement if there's a better one available, or you'll be replacing it as soon as the 3-month warranty's up.

Another tip...if it's the original there should be some type of sealant around the plastic cover. I ran a bead of RTV around it where the old was before replacing the cover to help keep the heat out of the cab.

I'm running a $20 core from napa, and I've had no problems. Probably been in there at least 2 years.
