I heard you could get under dash courtesy lights in an 86 f series? Is this correct? Would they plug right in? If so, I'm off to the junk yard! Thanks!
Yep, they were an option. I don't know if the wiring is there or not, but holes to mount them are. A look at a wiring diagram would help.
Also, if your truck is a base model with just a driver's side door switch, the wiring for the passenger side one is there. Just buy a switch, remove the rubber plug, and plug it in.
WOW, thanks for the quick replies. I do have both door jamb switches, and I guess even if the wiring isn't there, it'd be easy enough to tie it into the door jamb switches.
Are the lights self grounding to the dash, or must they be grounded? If they are self grounding I may already have something that will work.
Check an XLT truck '80-86 (or Bronco) at your local junkyard. They're mounted at the very ends of the dash. Check out the plugins carefully, you should find the same (unused) plugins already on your truck. Adding them to my VERY base model '82 was simple plug+play once I knew where to look.
