Hello
Has anyone had a chance to really run the new 7.3 gas. Im in the market for a dually and cant justify the cost of the diesel option this year-10,400. Ive been on the fence in past years and have run the duallys with the 6.7 but towing from MD to FL with a 14' enclosed trailer not heavy gave me 9.1mpg-3:55 rear. My 2016 6.2 gas gave me the same-9.1mpg with 3:73 rear with same trailer and weight. I like the diesel but cant justify the cost. Also, Im not doing to be putting much mileage on the truck. Just some thoughts would be helpful.
I would definitely get the 7.3 if that’s all you’re towing and not putting miles on the truck. From what I’ve seen from other 7.3 owners you’ll be in the 8-10mpg when towing a similar trailer.
Thanks-Im not too much concerned about mpg when having a truck this big. However, when one has to pay over 10k for an engine option I would expect a better mpg especially since we all know the 7.3diesel got better-emissions and higher diesel fuel cost as well.
Its not to heavy according to your post so I don't see why a 7.3 wouldn’t do the job. I would even consider a SRW 2wd for mpg if that is a big concern.

You pay the 10K for power.
If you want to save money buy a 1/2 ton with a 3.3 V6 and keep it in the slow lane.
I've gone through this already and you're going to get a bunch of people who say unless it's a 6.7 you're going to regret all your life choices up to this point.
They seem to forget the new 7.3 dually is rated to tow 20k+ in the right configuration.
In my case it was not a fact of I can't afford a 6.7, I can easily. It's a case of I plan on keeping my truck for well past the warranty, even an extended, and im not sure I trust the CP4.2 enough to go that long.
I have no interest in spending $10k+ for a fuel system repair on a truck that's over 10 years old. And I'm certainly not spending $60,000+ on a truck to trade it in after 5 years.
Yes I know I'm not actually spending $60k. I'm spending whatever I paid vs whatever I sell/trade in for. Still not worth it. I buy a truck to use and enjoy. Not to drive around and worry if it's going to randomly leave me stranded because of a weak injection pump
I like diesels, so I drive diesels. I think a gasser would work fine for the OP but I’ve never driven one so I really couldn’t compare.
Regarding the comment about owning a diesel past warranty, that’s also an individual decision that no one else can make for you. When my warranty is up I’ll likely install a DPK to mitigate the scope of a potential CP4 failure, and keep on trucking. My 350 is the first vehicle I’ve ever owned that had a warranty; when something breaks, I fix it.

Yeah I understand it's an individuals choice, and it's just not one I feel is worth the risk. Believe me I'd LOVE a new Powerstroke, IF it had the reliabilty of my 12 valve.
I also understand the diesel has it's place, as does the gas. I'm just warning the OP he's going to get a bunch of naysayers telling him gas is the wrong choice, even if he was only buying the truck to drive around, unloaded, never hooked to a trailer.

Check out the 7.3 sub forum on this site. I've had many diesels and recently a few gas HD's. This new 7.3 is the best HD gasser I've owned.
