Question

I got a new 6.2 the first part of June. Now have 2400 miles on it. Really like it. I know this horse may have been beat to death, but when coasting and slowing down from highway speeds, I notice a slight ticking noise. Sounds like this may be normal. Can anyone confirm. The only other thing I have noticed and I thought was weird was that the inside of the tail pipe is black with soot. When you run your finger along the inside it comes out black. Seems like all the new vehicles stay roughly the same color as the steel. Anyone else experience this? I was going to do the first oil change at 3000 miles. I will mention this when I drop it off at the dealership. Thanks!

The 6.2 valve train is a little loud, wouldnt hurt having the dealer check it out if it bothers you. as for the tailpipe, mine is almost solid black but i am running a tune which i know can cause a richer condition.

I don't know about the ticking, but my '17 with 23,000 miles has a tailpipe so clean you can eat off it. No soot.

Every 6.2 I see its black inside. Mine doesn’t burn a drop of oil like Ive heard some say that use Mobil 1 talk about a quart every 1,000-1,500 miles I change mine every 3,000 with Castrol Edge 5w30 and I haven’t had any oil lose at all.

I wouldn’t say its black from soot but discolored from heat.

I've never seen the first discussion about a 2017+ 6.2 burning any oil.

Its more oil related some burn oil off more than others. Mobile 1 is the one I hear it more common with and no its not just a 6.2 any gas engine. I have a 19 6.2 I run Castrol Edge and it runs hard I always have a load on it anywhere from 3,000 to 13,000 and have done 3 oil changes so far and no oil usage. Thats why I say its oil related not the truck it’s self. I run Mobil 1 in my wifes zero turn it calls for 20w50 all I can find that in is Mobil 1 where I live and I always have to add oil to that thing.

I use Mobil 1 in my '16 6.2 and haven't had any oil use problems, But it only has 11K miles on it so that may or may not make a difference.

There is nothing wrong. I told you mine is the same way and its a 19. I dont care what anybody on here says their tailpipe isnt clean like it was when it was brand new every 6.2 and I see alot of them with all the fleet stuff that runs around from pipeline trucks and what not and every one of them is discolored.
