Angry Backup Camera Issue

My new 2020 XLT, Max Trailer has just turned 900 miles, and consequently I have my first problem.
Dam screen goes blank when backing up, at first intermittently, but now it's occasionally working, and of course I just hooked on to a trailer with no camera, that was the final straw
I thought at first maybe something I was doing, but now I think something is messed up, been acting up since the day I drove it home.
Call dealer Monday

Sorry to hear about your problems but, at least you’re under warranty so let your dealer deal with it and don’t stress over it.

The first thing I would check is the wiring harness connection to the tailgate. If it’s slightly loose, disconnect, spray with WD40 then reconnect and push it together until it clicks. It’s not uncommon for some harness connections to not be fully seated.

Instead of WD40 (which not a bad choice), you might instead put in a dab of dielectric grease. My personal favorite is DC4, but there are plenty of good choices at any automotive store.

I prefer dielectric grease, but if there is moisture or contamination in the plug, WD40 will clean it out. Just using the grease will seal it in. But let's combine ideas, clean it out with WD40, then use a dab of dielectric grease when snapping it back together.

Will do, I have both products, hopefully I'll report back with good news
Thanks

Truck is at dealer waiting on new camera, sounds like a lot of 2020's have this issue

My 2020 camera just started to act up. How long did it take them to fix it? Or, how long did you have to wait at the dealer? Are these cameras expensive?

WD40 is a good cleaner, I have a can of "electrical contact cleaner" that I think is basically the same stuff. If you have real corrosion, one of those cheap "emery board" nail filing boards is a little more abrasive. Most dollar stores sell them. Once it's clean and working good, dielectric grease is a good idea. I have a tube that has lasted me 10 years already, it's handy to have around.

Doesn't sound like the 7-way connector is the issue anyway, I just wanted to throw in my two cents and say I hope your dealer fixes you up quickly.

It shouldn't cost you anything since you have a 2020.
The camera is covered by your warranty.

Yes, but if you have to sit at the dealer for three hours to have them fix it, but the camera is $40. I would rather buy the camera and do it myself. Don't look like it would take me 15 min to do.

Agreed. Call your favorite dealer and ask the price to know for sure.
I just skipped through a video of how to do it. It's pretty easy and 10-15 minutes sounds about right if you are using a rechargeable drill to unfasten/fasten the access panel.
The cost for the camera looks to be north of $100, but you'd need to check your dealer. If you know one of the service writers, he 'might' be willing to hand you the camera and let you swap it out there yourself under warranty.
Or, just set an appointment and let them do it. If you are not waiting for anyone elses car to be serviced, they should have you in and out very quickly.
Good luck.

I have the same problem, showed up in the first week. Waiting for the part to arrive. This is apparently a VERY common issue.

Sure, you can purchase it yourself and install it yourself but, as annoying as it is waiting at a dealer for any repair, situations like these is why the vehicle has a 3/36K warranty. Also, I really doubt that it’ll take three hours.

With that being said, it’s your money so if you want to purchase a part that’s under warranty and install it yourself, go for it.
