Power running boards initial power up sequence question...

Need help with a few questions.

I am getting ready to power up my running boards but I had heard that I should
#1 disconnect both batteries
#2 then connect the power wire for the running board module to a fused hot connection. Then,
#3 after the module is connected to a power source, connect both batteries back up so that all the modules
begin talking to each other at the same time,.

IS THIS TRUE??? SHOULD IT BE DONE THIS WAY?

Thanks

All i did was remove the fuse to the Amp steps, installed everything and then reinstalled the fuse. That's what the instructions said to do. Worked great
