ac compresser

My 94 F150 ac compresser switches on and off even when the air is not turned on. The only way it stops is when the heat/ac **** is in the off postion. Is this normal?

is your selector on the defrost postion ?

if not you may have a bad cycle switch. and or a short.

yes, the control **** is in the defrost position, the compresser will turn on for about 30 seconds to one minute, then go off for about 3 minutes, then repeat this cycle.

it is normal for the a/c compressor to run when it is on defrost. its supposed to dry out the air to defrost the window quicker.
