Well I'm just about done with my Cummins swap on my 03 but this wiring is killing me. I had my harness modified professionally by diesel conversion specialists and I got my harness back and started hooking everything up and everything is plug and play except the tach. I know this isn't a Cummins forum but I think this is going to be more of a Ford question. Anyways I can't seem to get the crankshaft sensor wired into the harness properly because I'm not getting a tach reading inside the cab it's only a three wire sensor but I don't know how to solder so I used but connectors to put the wires together could that be one of my issues? Also wanted to know what all requires tach to work my fuel gauge isn't working properly and my battery light is on on my instrument cluster and my sct x4 tuner will not communicate with the truck to give me my strategy codes to start tuning my transmission I keep getting this general error code 21301. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Need to work / fix the CKP (crankshaft) first as it's a critical input in the whole chain..............Cummins uses a three-wire, Ford uses a two-wire......
....also, the Ford cluster uses a Camshaft (CMP) input for the tach

Just got my tach figured out and up and working yesterday and it's now working normally. I think my batteries are not charging because I forgot to hook up the wire between the battery cable and alternator. However my sct is still giving me the general area code 21301 my torque pro won't connect either through my OBD port and my fuel gauge is still giving me a false reading. I'm going to double check this morning that I didn't miss a plug or leave one loose but I think that's unlikely.

For other forum users in the future, what did you do to correct the tach issue?

Basically I had 3 wires coming off my new harness and it needed to be hard wired into the crankshaft sensor because the harness side of the connector is no longer available for purchase. The 3 wires on the harness side was color coded however the 3 wires coming off the crankshaft sensor were all black so it was just a matter of figuring out the right combination. With some temporary quick disconnects and swapping the wires around until the yellow light lit on the swap helper then check to confirm the tach was working. Took me literally less than 5 minutes to figure out the right combination after getting the idea of using the quick disconnects temporarily to swap the wires around. Now onto the next problem. I can't seem to get my tuner to connect to the ECU so not sure what's going on there but hopefully I'll get that resolved soon.
