I’m working on getting it running and driving. I’m looking into where to source parts. Can’t seem to find brake parts.little bit on eBay.... . Anyway any info and advise would be great. And I’d love to talk to someone in Washington.

Thanks Matt

Also welcome! The big truck guys here are extremely knowledgeable and helpful, I'm sure they'll be around soon to point you in the right direction. Be aware that parts are harder to come by for the big trucks, compared to smaller pickups.

Front wheels appear to be the locking ring type, and that's really good news if the rest of them are like that. I think brake drums will be your biggest issue because there are no NOS and they are not repopped. Used is your best bet, but I don't know if they can be metal sprayed or not. My shop is just off SR3 in Silverdale by the Bangor sub base.

I'm asking because I don't know but can the inside of the drums have a continuous weld bead applied then turned on a lathe. The reason I ask the mine I worked at used to send out the wheels from the ore cars and have that done and the wheels were cast ..

Welcome to FTE the best Ford truck forum on the World wide Web!

Nice F500! And thanks for the pictures. The engine looks like a later Yblock. Later than 1956.

I’m unaware of the engine size or year. But I thought it was a flathead in 53. The brake pedal goes all the way to floor it’s missing it’s battery and the distributor cap and air filter are off. The engine has oil in it the radiator and gas tank are empty. I spent all day searching for rust and the worst of it is on the rain gutters. Got some bad holes that do t leak into cabin yet. I think I will just sand down wire wheel rust inhibitor paint and put on some Henry’s roof tar stuff for patching waterproofing metal roofs. Cleaned up the inside of mice turds and grime. What do you guys think this truck is worth in it’s current state? It’s got brand new tires but old. Still have nubbs. I payed $900 for it.

The Cat dealer I used to work for would metal spray hard surface on the track rollers and idlers, and other pieces. The tricky part I would think is matching the metallurgy so the friction coefficient and heat transfer rate is the same as well as the alloy. Other than that I don't see why it couldn't be done. I would think a good machine shop could do it if it's feasible. I don't know about the smaller trucks but on the bigger ones (I think F-4 size and up) the drums are actually two piece, the centers are stamped steel and the outer drum section is cast. You can see the continuous weld when you look closely

Add my welcome. You’ve got a nice survivor. I’d like to see more pictures of the wheels, preferably straight on shots. I’m not totally convinced the one pictured is not a widow maker Firestone RH-5°. Stu

Arizona Auto Parts had my front wheel cylinders and kits for the back, 800-352-4036. VintageGlass if you need glass, and ask NumberDummy here on this forum for almost anthing, he's a Ford Parts Specialist. Ask Abe on this forum if you're having problems deciding on a color. Lol Enjoy your truck and build.
