Hi,
I just bought a 2000 F-250. The build sticker on the door jamb has no entry for axle code. Is there a default value if nothing is specified? The metal tags on the rear diff also have nothing about ratio on them. Is there any other way to figure out what I have without taking the cover off??
OR, if there is nothing else, jack up the rear end, put on jack stands, put truck in neutral, put a mark on one tire wher you can see it from under the truck, put a mark on the drive shaft.
Now then rotate the drive shaft until the tire makes one revolution, counting the rev’s of the D.S.
3 1/3 rev’s of D.S. To 1 rev of the tire = 3.31
3 1/2 rev’s = 3.55
3 3/4 rev’s = 3.,73
4.1 rev’s = 4.10
4 1/3 = 4.30
4 1/2 = 4.56
And so on
This weekend I changed the oil in my rear axle. It turns out the metal tag DID have the ratio on it, but the bolt hid the "3" at the beginning.
Note to self: Remove the metal tags and get good light on them so you can see what you are looking it! It does not hurt to buff the tags to be able to see everything.
