Has anyone replaced their battery cables recently? I'm looking for the Motorcraft positive battery cable to go in along with my new batteries. Can't find it in stock anywhere online to order.
2000 F-350
Part # WC-9329D
Most good hometown family owned autoparts stores have heavy duty mechanical crimpers that they make up cables with. I used 2/0 welding cable to length and had my friendly hometown store install the lugs and glue type shrink tubing. Cost was negligible compared to the welding cable.
No crimping required. I'm not a proponent of crimping unless it is used with solder or packed with silicone grease and contained with adhesive lined shrink tubing. Over time the resistance will go up as the surfaces corrode.
My new cables arrived today! They were packaged very well.
Waiting on my new Motorcraft Alternator and Motorcraft Starter then i'll have everything I want to do the installation.
Just upgraded my cables and terminals today. Had an issue with one of the original neg terminals coming loose and in general having a real bad connection which lead to this job.
Didn't buy a premade kit like some of you have.
Cables are all 2/0 now. The wire going from alternator to starter solenoid is now running to the right side battery +(saves the drivers side passenger side confusion). Gets it out of the way and neatens things up.
Alternator direct to left side battery + connected via a manual reset circuit breaker.
As the grounds are all 2/0 anyway, they have just been cleaned up and recrimped. Ran a ground from alternator to left side negative.
The crossover cable is 2/0 now instead of the poxy shoestring from factory.
Used military style terminals. Still got some tidying up left to do. This is the first of the wiring jobs on the truck ticked off. First impressions is the truck starts faster and seems to kick the starter harder.
Next is tackling that birds nest of **** in the right corner.
Nice work guys. This gives me a lot of stuff to go on when redoing mine sometime this summer. It's on the list along with turbo rebuild and new 5+5 wheel going in. I'll start a new thread. Don't mean to hijack.
I just installed a set on my OBS and quality is top notch, and what's even better is that they are made here in the USA. I decided to get the "cold start" option which has a very nice 3/0 wire goingbto the starter.
Question...on the custombatterycables.com set, I'm looking to order one too. Mechanic (*******) cut ends off both positive and driver side positive. Truck hasn't started right since. Did that kit come with everything you needed to change out the positive and negative cables, i.e. if you could actually still order the OEM ones from Ford?
Thanks!
