Hi.
i have a 2018 Ford F-150 four door xlt 4X4 with the v8.
it has 45k miles on it.
here is the problem I’m experiencing. Whenever I pull my boat on a long trip and also the kids have electronics Plugged in, if I turn the truck off and let it sit for 5 minutes, it is very slow to crank over. I don’t have any warning lights indicating a problem. I have already replaced the battery but this was not the problem. I don’t know if the two conditions I mentioned have anything to do with it or not. My first thought is starter motor is getting heat soaked. Any help appreciated
My OEM battery did the same thing at 2 years/25k miles. What kind of battery is your replacement? Did you reset the Battery Maintenance System when it was installed. If not, you can disconnect it so it will get charged on short trips.
Even though it’s new, check the battery voltage both running and not running.
What are the rated cranking amps of your battery? Ford puts in oem batteries with low cranking amps. When I get a new battery, I get one with the highest cca I can find - it does make a difference in starting power in both hot and cold climates

I have the same exact problem 2020 f150. Any update on resolution?
99.9% guarantee it's the starter. Another Forum I am on, long thread about this, starter gets a bit hotter under the stress of towing. Also, seems 2018 had a bad batch of starters.
A system voltage check would go a long way to point to the root cause.
Use a low cost DMM plugged into a power port to monitor the vehicle system performance.
Cold prestart with ignition on should see about 12.3 +/-. This is normal AGM Battery State of charge in a fault free system.
Cranking no lower that 10 volts. Starter load and Battery capacity health indicator.
Running, 13.9 to 14, then slowly ramps up to 14,4+/- depending on how much charge the Battery needs at that time to begin Charge recovery.
If these are within range, the Starter is suspect.
Age, Brush wear etc,
Good luck.
My father in law has the same year, engine etc as you and had the same problem, only an issue under load and would crank slow as if the battery were dead after stopping for fuel. New starter cured his issues. Surprised they haven't made a heat shield that could help prevent/preserve some of these issues.
