Smoking and driping out
I just got my 1966 ford 289 rebuilt. I was having problems starting but fine now. My question what could cause smoke and oil to come out of the breather on the valve cover? I switch the side of the motor the breather use to be on. So now the breather is one the Pass side of the motor. This change was done because I am now using an Edelbrock carb which the PVC port is on the front of the carb and was closer to the original location of the Breather. I didn’t think this would cause a problem. I still haven’t moved it back to test it yet.

It doesn't matter which side the breather or PCV is on. You might have a PCV valve going bad. You should get rid of the breather with the PCV valve. The PCV should relieve all the pressure if it is working properly.
