Got a 94 f250 with the 351w. Got almost 200k miles but the thing runs like I bought it new. Is it necessary to replace the timing chain? I heard they are coated and the stuff can come off and contaminate your oil
I'm confused. You bought it new and it has 200k on the original timing chain? Or you bought it with 200k and it runs like new? Either way, timing chain is good for about 70-100k before it should be replaced. After that long there is quite a bit of slack in the chain and the stretched chain will lead to retarded valve train events causing a lack of power, and will eventually have enough slack to skip teeth on the gears.
