Question on 6.7 vs 7.3

Ok so i want to hear your opinions. Im looking at trading in my 2008 F350 6.4L for something new. Possibly a 2019/2020. I bought my 6.4l because i tow a 37'+ camper. I have been looking at another diesel, but have started to ponder the idea of looking at the new 7.3 gas motor. We like to take long trips, and being in the northeast we have our share of hills to climb. Does anyone have experience with the 7.3? Should i even consider the gas?

By the time this discussion ends, you will be totally confused!
Gasser fans..........there is a diesel broke down every mile on the road
Diesel fans........the gassers can’t get out of their own way!

Get what YOU WANT. They will both do the job. The diesel will get a little better fuel mileage when pulling, the gasser will cost a little less to maintain.
Don’t look for any definitive answers here.......you just started the endless argument here on FTE!

That is the best answer to the never-ending G vs D question that is constantly being posted at FTE yet! Summarized them all in less than 100 words.

As stated above, sorry. My opinion (and that's all it is) is that if you have the $$ to drop on it upfront + upkeep then the 6.7 is going to be a more enjoyable/easier towing experience.

Huh, and if was on a gun forum, the question would be the 9mm or the 45.. I agree with the above, what do you want? Although you did ask if anyone has had experience with it.. Good Luck!!

As much as I love my 7.3(and I really do pulling up to 10-11k lbs, never had a gasser that tows like this), if I were looking at something with a dry weight of 14k lbs Id be looking at diesels.

Well considering I've owned my 6.4L since 2007. My choice was always a diesel. But the cost of a new one is crazy. So i started to look at the 7.3 gasser. But that all ended when i decided to go with a new 2019 6.7.

Scott,
Are you towing in the mountains? I am going back and forth 7.3L vs 6.7 diesel. I would be towing a travel trailer at 11,000lbs,, in the Sierras and Rockies. I am sure the 7.3L has enough power, but was concerned about mountain descents.
I like the price and maintenance aspects of the 7.3L, but I like the idea of the exhaust brakes of he diesel.

Thanks
Bmassei

I’m a diesel guy but times are changing for me. I don’t have to haul 10k+ loads very far anymore and gas prices in my area are normally 10-15 cents less per litre. Unless something changes, my next truck will be a 3/4 ton gas. I just chimed in because I had a good meme to post. 👍

I think the OP has already settled his own debate!

I have towed in the cascades in Oregon, highest pass I gone over I think is around 5200 ft so not that high yet. That being said I don’t think I’ve seen the rpms need to go over 3600 even on a section of 7 grade (I have a tremor I think the 4:30 gears with 35” tires works out to 4:10 ish) Engine braking is good for a gas engine, but obviously not a diesel. It’ll slow you down but at 11000 lbs you will be using brakes as well. I love this truck
