2017 fuel filter change, clamshell?

Ok so I changed my fuel filters yesterday, easy job, the OEM filter came with this clamshell for the fuel return line connector, do I need this? Doesn't seem like it?

Yes, it's a new thing to keep the skimpy return line from breaking off. They started putting it on in factory in 2019. I mean, you don't HAVE to use it, but it's an update.

I was thinking the same thing. "do I need this". Then I read that its an update to the system. Figured I'd better put it on. Don't need to give them any ammunition to try to say xyz is not covered by the warranty because I didn't install the 15c plastic clamshell.

I am going to do my first fuel filter change this weekend. The kit I bought also includes the clamshell. It’s a 2019 and there is not one on it currently. I will put it on, but is this something that you replace every time, or once you put it on you’re good to go? I just figure the less I disturb that return line the better and trying to pry that plastic clamp off every time could create a problem. Is the gap they want obvious, or is it necessary to use a feeler gauge?
