Bedside and tailgate tie downs.

I have been searching and cannot find specs on where exactly the bed and tailgate tie downs (cleats) are supposed to be located.

From my best guess, the bed cleats are relatively in-line with the door handle.

Is there a spec sheet showing proper install measurements?

I would say they're 3/8 " or so higher than the door handle. and the spacing is important too or it's going to look funny. most people mount them too high when they add them on.

My pickup has them from the factory but it's in the paint shop or I could get you a measurement. maybe someone here can get you a faster measurement or has the diagram.

On the same note, think im gonna put the western swing away mirrors on. No truck i have looked at has them mounted in the same spot from driver’s vs. passenger’s side.

Variations on the theme, since all mirrors no matter what type were installed at the dealer and not the factory, you're at the mercy of who did it, how experienced they were, and how much of a hurry they were in. Or if in a real hurry, were they done by two separate techs!
I love the look of the Western style, but really always wanted Type 9's on mine. But I screwed up when I installed my aftermarket version (looked similar to Ford Type #9's) and actually did match the left and right sides. Too bad I did the left first, because the right was hard to see fully from the driver's seat and got in the way of opening up the wing vent!
That latter issue went away when I installed my VentVisors (because they block the vent first now), but the view was still messed up.

Wasn't bad enough to change, but now that I've got some real Type 9's I think I'll be more careful during the setup!
And now I'm going to even try to weld up the old holes from my original mirrors this time. Have had black push-in plugs all these years and have worked fine. But they just don't look quite right.

I have pickups with type 7 and type 9 and they're all the same on both sides. that said I'm sure they can be a little different because it wasn't a precision issue for the guy who had 56 seconds to install one as basecamp says..

I can get you measurements for the bed side BUT just assuming your truck is a longbed? They are all in the same location for the tailgate but obviously not for the 6.5' vs 8' beds.

For the tailgate, I measured from the edge of the tailgate to first bolt hole, 12 3/8" for both ( on the left side, measured the edge of tailgate to the first bolt hole which is the left bolt hole of the tie down plate, for the right side same thing except it will be the first bolt hole on the right side of the plate). The top edge of the tie down plate will sit just below (actually butts up against the bottom) of the rib/bump out on the top portion of the tailgate. NOTE: this is the factory installed locations

The tie downs will mount a inch or so higher than your door handles!

Scott, thanks for the info so far. I forgot you would likely have just been through a similar venture.

Thanks,
Russ

Yeah I just added a set to my 79 CCSB but I have a couple of long bed trucks that have them on there from the factory, so I can get those measurements.
