I have a 2019 F150 super cab 4x4 Platinum. The towing capacity should be 11,500lbs, right?
I tow a boat that weighs 7,800lbs with 1,100lbs of tongue weight. I added air bags to the suspension and got it tuned at DDR Concepts.
While towing the boat, the truck will go into a low power mode and a tool icon comes up. I have to stop and shut the truck off and restart it. Has anyone experienced this issue with a tune? I don’t have the stock tune to put it back to factory yet.
Should the truck handle the 7,800lbs?
Well, there is almost nothing that "tunes" can't cause IMHO..... and not having the oem program to reload back yourself is "troublesome" IMHO in the event you are on the road and get "stuck" this could be a DIY solution (possible)... and given the oem specific software "modeling" that has safeguards to protect the engine from valve tuliping over time not to mention the cats, etc., unless the tuner is a MSE MasterTech in the powertrrain & transmission software, I would walk away since this can cause a variety of issues including loss of warranty (since Ford will look in the Mode 6 file for history which cannot be deleted by most any "tuner").
I agree that it is troublesome to not have the OEM tune. There was just a problem with the tuner saving my OEM tune. I was able to get the tune emailed to me. After reinstalling it, the truck pulled the load perfectly. I was definitely disappointed after spending the $500 for the tune and it caused my truck to go into limp mode while pulling the load. They want to get more info about the problem. I haven't had a chance to get back with them. I was traveling and couldn't always get good fuel. The load weighs over 7,500 lbs. The truck pulled it with no problems at all for over 3,300 miles from Oklahoma to Arizona over the continental divide. I averaged about 10mpg so it wasn't cheap! It was comfortable though.
