Mobil 1 vs Rotella (Gas application)

Been running M1 0W20 since new, but thinking of switching to Rotella...thoughts? (I know Rotella has a great reputation in the diesel oil realm)

2006 F250 5.4L 3V 6speed

(Note, I tow a 9000# 5th wheel)

The truck won't know the difference and you won't be able to tell the difference, either. They are both excellent products. My only recommendation is to use the weight the Ford engineers recommend in tbe owner's manual.

Personally I am 100% Mobil 1 and have never used anything else since the late 1980s.

There's been at least 2 independent oil tests I've read over the last decade, or so, which were geared towards diesel engines that has shown that there's little difference between the cheaper and more expensive oils of the same type and rating. Store brand synthetic 10-30 will protect and last just as well as Mobil 1. Buy the least expensive oil that's rated for your truck.

Invest in quality air/fuel/oil filtering if you want more protection.

Using Mobile 1 extended life would have been a better test.

You have to TRY to buy a bad motor oil these days.

I'm not sure RGT will be around much longer, the market is heavily saturated and for whatever reason consumers didn't take to RGT. AutoZone discontinued it last year and Home Depot just got it off their shelves, too. But it's really good oil and you can't go wrong.

I’ve used Mobil 1 in my 250 since 03 and haven’t had any complaints. I’ve also used Castrol, motorcraft, store brands, valvoline, etc in all my other vehicles with no complaints either. Can’t go wrong with any of them.
