Well my sunroof wasn’t opening. Took it to dealer and got a quote to fix this. Nearly $5,000! Parts are backorder for a couple months so that makes me believe this is a common problem that Ford should address. I’m just out of warranty of course and have hardly used the sunroof. Anybody know any cheap fixes?
If it's still closed, then leave it alone and hope it doesn't leak. If it will open a little then seal it up and close it. They all leak a little and are stupid expensive to fix. I'll never have another one.
If you can fix it yourself, or know someone,
sunroofdr.com has all parts you may need. If the dealer explained what was wrong.
I will look into that. My paperwork says cable for adjustment is binding and motor is stripped on cable ending. Dealer recommended and quoted new rails and motors

that's no good, this is why I didn't want one on my current truck. On the other hand my daily driver escape has one and at 211,000 miles it still works great. You just never know. (Knock on wood).

exactly, had a 150 Platinum for 2 years and used it a lot and never had an issue. I have had sunroofs in all of my vehicles dating back a while, and never had one leak.. hear the wood knocking.. this 250 is the only one that has not had it in a long while
There is no need to replace the rails if your only problems are the drive cable and motor.
The motor costs about 30 bucks for the manufacturer to purchase and the drive cable are less than 2 bucks
The trick to a panoramic roof is to USE IT OFTEN. Never open the sunroof without first "breaking the seal". Do this by hitting the center button and popping the rear up only. Then you can bring it down and open normally. If you wash your truck a lot, soapy water tends to make things stick by drying between the glass and seal. Maintain it by keeping the seal around the glass clean and keep it lubed with krytox gpl 105 oil.
That being said... I chose to forgo the panoramic moonroof option this time around. I didn't want to take a chance on being out of warranty since I plan to keep this truck awhile.
Same here. 17 model and I rarely used the sunroof. Looks nice , but these horror stories of repairs changed my mind on the sunroof. The 20 I have ordered will not have the sunroof.
Never opened mine, never will. Enjoy just having the panoramic roof and the open feel. No leaks and a whole lot less painted surface to wax.
Same here. I never open it. Well, anymore.

$5k is stupid expensive to fix a roof.
I accidentally vented mine in -30F and the damn thing wouldn’t close. Luckily enough I was able to put enough pressure on the panel to get it closed.
I wouldn’t say lack of use, lack of maintenance would be a better term in my opinion. The seals have to be lubed up because if they stick when opening, that’s what gets a guy in trouble.
OP - Sunroof doctor website will get you going again. Lots of guys have bought replacement parts for way cheaper than the dealer. If you don’t want to do it yourself, a body shop will come in way cheaper than the dealer.
good info...what i find annoying is in the "pop up " mode there is only a 1/2 inch open and it whistles at freeway speed...useless IMO...is that about how much it opens in this position?
as far as maintaining mentioned above..do you just lube the track with the krytox gpl 105 oil ?
