50 PROGRESS UPDATE

It has been a year since I have really had a chance to work on my project, have been busy taking care of my wife since her fall. Here are some photos of what I have been doing in the last couple of months. This is my second paint job that I have ever done. The first one was in 1977 when I painted a food service van at work with acrylic enamel. The paint is Nason Ford race red basecoat clearcoat. I still have some wet sanding and polishing to do but overall I think it looks ok for a daily driver. Over the years I have done a lot of reading and watching videos on painting and I'm pleased so far on how it is going.

The Harbor Freight canopy I put up in front of my shop was just for a shaded work area for doing my body work, I did not plan it as my paint booth. I put up sliding curtains on the sides and the front and back is plastic sheeting that I put up with velcro tabs when I get ready to paint. I put the front panel up after putting my parts inside. It only comes down to the top of the 24" fan I also bought at Harbor Freight. The big plus out of all of it was the roll of paint booth filter material I purchased and cut a piece and put on the suction side of the fan after turning it on. You notice no red paint on my driveway, which pleased me.

Looks like all your reading and YouTube videos paid off. I'll be a happy man if mine turns out as well as yours did.

Nice work. I see a gas can hooked to the engine. Did you test it out?

Enjoyed your post. That red looks real close to vermilion. Nice.

Thank you for your comments. This project would not have happened if not for the support of my wife. The day we drove across the pass to eastern Washington to get the truck, I was not feeling well and the wife drove, we stopped and got the u-haul trailer, loaded the truck and she hauled it back home. The wife made sure she budgeted for what it would take for parts and tools to build this. The last thing I need to get for it is a decent cowl vent lid for it, I think 48-52 will fit. My cover was so rusted out I could not make the repairs needed.

Your wife sure sounds like a keeper. That race red is a eye popper, I can see if 5 miles away on the interstate. I could also see Lipstick red from the late 70's that far away. Fond of red trucks, our 12 is vermillion. Nice work. Going to look good.

Finding a dry day here in the foothills of the cascade mountains is maybe July, August. If it looks like it might be a good day, I go out and set up my paint area about 6 am in the morning, mix paint about 8:30 and shoot about 9:00.
