I have noticed a couple of questions lately about adjusting hood springs.
I adjusted mine today and just thought I’d share how I did it. It was really easy and took about 2 minutes.
tools needed are
- large pry bar
- large pair of multi grips
- face shield
- something to hold the hood up
Tools and safety first.
position pry bar to gain leverage against hood hinge
pull up on pry bar to leverage spring end down
while putting upward pressure on pry bar, use a set of large multi grip pliers to secure the spring end and pull outward on pliers while levering pry bar upwards. It might take a couple of goes as you have to put some muscle into it both pushing and pulling both tools together.
Hood now holds open. Now I can put my mind at rest knowing the hood won’t crash down on me!
Open hood, put a quarter between each expanded spring ring, then close hood part way. Spring will fall off and can weld the worn notch on spring perches

Man I love these tips! You guys are awesome! I was thinking I would lose a finger when I try to adjust my springs (my hood is currently off).

I do, but requires planning before disassembly and painting. Set your alignment up for the doors then drill 2 holes that are 1/4 inch diameter thru each hinge plate and bracket. When you reassemble use 4 drill bits in the holes to get them to return to your original position

I haven’t taken mine off yet, do you have any pics for clarification? I think I follow but not certain
New here, great tips. Might be obvious but...On my 59, appears to be 3 spots to have the spring attached to, mine are on the middle. Which spot would I move them to the upper or lower to have the hood stay up better.
thanks. Dave

pretty sure the upper. More tension more force more better.
