We just recently bought a camper fully loaded/bed of truck full of wood and other stuff weighs in at about 9,000#
normally while driving my EOT is around 200-205 coolant is low it needs a thermostat. Usually around 180*
Anyways, I hooked the camper up and headed to the camp ground. I had to climb some pretty big hills most of the way there and the highest EOT was 254* and ECT was 216*
EGR has been deleted but the high oil temp worries me.
would you guys start with a back flush on the oil cooler or would you just recommend changing it out? ive never done a back flush but it seems really straight forward and the set up is around $100.
another question is at what point is EOT so high that I can cause bearing failure or melt the plastic stand pipe under the oil filter?
I would do the oil cooler, but thats more because i like new parts. It makes me feel good and id (might be unfounded) be worried about crud going back through the cooler. I feel like if its clogged you know where its at.
I'd backflush it... only a few hours of "work" and have never heard of it not working. I used CLR twice in the cooler, some use cascade... my deltas solo before were 24° and after are 7 to 8 degrees, towing our 9500 pound camper I hover around 15° deltas.
The problem with backflushing a super restricted oil cooler is you never flush it completely due to the design. Do some research and you will see what I’m referring to.
You have to isolate the flow through the oil cooler. The OE cap will not do this. That us why biscuit head Hewitt uses a hose that fits into the oil cooler hole under the cap. XDP sells one as well.
I wouldn't follow that "biscuit head Hewitt" character as another biscuit head (SlackDaddy) who I happen to like (although he's completely full of chit on most diesel stuff) has correctly pointed out
(don't ask how I know this)
But on the backflush -- use a nozzle that "pulsates" or "oscillates" (varies psi) water flow as this increases the overall beneficial effect.

What do you like about me? The fact that I’ll call you on your **** and no one else (not even moderators) will?
Of course, the snowflake mentality today reigns supreme. I was trying to help you troubleshoot and ******** pops in talking trash like he does every time he posts on this forum and I get lumped into his category. You should PM him for his shop number so next time you have an issue just bypass the forum.
