Looks like I may have bought a rig that was flood damaged. Long story short, I'm finding silt, dirt, you name it under the floor lining, behind the dash and numerous other places. Although I have the extended warranty when I bought it, I'm afraid when I take it in they may try to blame it on that, in which case it will not be covered. Believe me, I have things that need to be fixed too! I'll be calling the sales manager at the dealership I bought it from to see what they will do although it's been ~ 8 months since I bought it. I've always dealt w/ the larger dealerships as I've always trusted that they would be more concerned and inspect the vehicles they sell. Especially when they tell you that it has been inspected by them and ran through carfax. Not sure what I'm trying to say here other than ask if anyone has had a similar problem and what kind of laws you may have in your state for it. I' ll probably have to pay someone to inspect it. I'd be happy just getting my down payment back and they take back the rig and I start over. Hopefully I'll know more tomorrow.
Well I've decided to call mt atty before trying to deal w/ the dealership. I figured if I have no leagal rights, no need to get my blood pressure up. Now I'm wondering if some of the interior was swapped from what was in it originally. Whish I could find out just how it was when initially sold.
mine was driven on dirt roads cause it had dirt everywhere. Fleet mobile.
Hope yors wasn't in a flood..mine was terrible and I know it wasn't submerged. I blew it out with compressed air..
I think one thing to check on is to see if your dealership imported the truck from Canada. Flooding is a very common thing to occur in Canada and causes LOTS of trucks to be sold and imported. Trust me, I know. I work for US Customs and I see tons of rigs coming down like this.
Good move to talk with atty to see what kind of action you can persue (if any) This is sad but I hear it happens a lot up and down the East coast. How about a title search at the DMV? Don't know if that will help though. Should lead you back to where it came from.
It might be worth checking carfax.com with your vehicle I.D. number to see what information you can find out. I think the cost is around $20.00. Good luck and keep us posted.
Eric
It did come from Canada. I ran it through carfax initially and it came up clean. Talking with DMV, they made a good point that nothing will be documented unless an owner of a vehicle makes it know. I don't argue that, it's just that when a dealership touts that they check out everything, I would just expect that. If it is and I have no recourse and they don't want to work with me, they've lost a repeat customer as I purchased my prior truck from them as well.
To many times I can say that this is an auctioned vehicle. And when it comes from Canada the title has probably been washed along with your truck the best thing is for you dealer to tell you if it was an auctioned vehicle or not. That will give you some info on where it came from.
