The light output from ‘05-07 style lenses is not as good as ‘02-04 with relay harness and Hella 100/80watt bulbs. The H13/9008 bulbs have tiny pins and will not tolerate higher wattage bulbs. They didn’t even like the extra juice from my relay harness (melted pigtails....)
Ive put these in LOTS of trucks with relay harness and 100/80watt bulbs. Everyone always loves the light output. I’ve had good luck with Eagle Eyes brand and prefer the clear turn signals too. (With ‘switch back’ LED’s)
Ive switched a bunch of ****ty LED/HID retrofit bulbs to relay harness and 100/80watt bulbs. This puts more light further down the road and never annoys other drivers.
Here’s the part number for harness from www.rallylights.com (GREAT people btw)
What’s your recommendation on bulbs? I would like a whiter light then the standard halogen but not to blue either. Just clean bright white?
Hella 9007 100/80watt.
The Optilux 100/80 is a little more white/blue, but thats not really any advantage.
If you want MORE light than these housings and bulbs, get fog lights and running lights. I like to wire these on 3-position switches do they can be ON-OFF-ON with high/low beams (driving lights/fog lights). You can choose obnoxiously bright LED/HID as long as you turn them off for oncoming drivers. Having them turn off with high beam switch makes this easy.

SSJ , do you basically run all new wiring for this relay upgrade? I just checked my lenses and much to my suprise the previous owner put in eagle eye lenses but the put in leds and i dont like them. As you described there is not much light down the road and I also don't have a high beam. The bulbs are kinda just stuck into the socket and just knowing its like that drives me crazy. Would really like to get this done correctly. Is there any write ups on doing this upgrade?
Youll fasten relays to fenderwell, run the fused 12v wire to battery, starter solenoid, etc and the headlight pigtails to bulbs. One of the old headlight pigtails plugs into harness for triggering relays.

Does this look about right? Conventional switch system on our trucks? Just don't want to order the wrong one, thanks
shoot I just realized I have the 05 h13 eagle eye lenses and noticed that you said the reflection isn't as good with these lenses. Will the 9007 bulbs fit in the h13 lens? Is it even worth doing with the 05 h13 lens? Sorry for all the questions
Not worth H13 lenses. The ‘02-04 with higher wattage bulbs beat them hands down.
I just recently installed LED bulbs to try and help...then along comes this thread and I learn I’m a dummy. I haven’t really driven it much at night since the conversion but the main point was to make the long trip home from the dragstrip less tiresome and safer. Sounds like maybe I didn’t really help my cause. The white light does “look” a lot brighter though.
I’ve been reading through various lighting posts and it seems I need the relay harness and 100/80 bulbs like shown in the cart above, but I also need new lenses.
Here’s my question. Which lenses? Or probably more accurately which lenses are right for me? I’m thinking the ones Wes and Brian were using from Rock Auto would suit me best.
I don’t really care to deviate too far from the stock look, although I may prefer the clear parking lights look. I guess I’d be looking for an updated stock appearance. Suggestions?
Oh and my friends here at FTE sure do keep my cash flowing toward my rarely driven powerstroke.
The LED’s DO put more light right in front of the truck. It’s also this ‘scattering’ that makes them annoying to other drivers.
Your current lenses should be an easy sell on CL, Marketplace or classifieds here if you choose to change’em.
The lenses you mentioned are all fine. If your turn signals still look good, save the few $$ and keep them.
Some of the ‘cheap’ lenses will see the reflective stuff peel off the inside and may not have as good of a light pattern as the ‘good’ ones. OEM is still certainly the best quality.
