2004 xlt 4*4. Had a power steering line finally blow out. Rust corrosion. It's right where it enters the power steering gearbox. I'd like to replace all the lines and the gearbox. Last year I replaced the lower steering shaft due to that universal joint locking up. Since then there has been a lot of play in the steering wheel. Since the line rusted thru(all the other lines are super rusted too)I figured it would be good to replace the steering box and all the lines. I couldn't find any good info of someone removing the steering box. Just wondering if anyone had any tips or advice!
For what it's worth, the free play in the steering gearbox can be adjusted. There is a lash adjuster with a locknut on top. There is a specific procedure for doing it so if your interested I'll tell you. Otherwise, if you just want to replace it, that's fine too. I have replaced it on other cars but never on a Ford F-150 so I don't have any specific advise.

I may take you up on that. I vaguely remember coming across this information after I changed out the lower steering shaft. I thought though there was very little adjustment in doing this and you weren't really supposed to make a big adjustment, that if there is too much play better to replace the box. Just going by memory though. I have every bit of 3/4" of play.
I also never understood why I had the play after changing out the lower steering shaft. If the play was in the box it should have been noticeable even with the bad universal joint in the shaft.
I get you . maybe the play is in a aftermarket universal joint? There are videos showing how ro deal with the rusted hard to undo line nuts I believe south main auto or ford tech malucoco a good source.
I would avoid the big job of removing gear box if possible .
