Hello, I got my marti report back a bit ago and it confirmed my suspicion that my truck has the Explorer A package.
The truck is a 1979.
Can anyone confirm if the badge was below or above the rear marker light for this year? My bed has been replaced and there are no provisions for a badge.
78 and prior is below. 79 is above. Do a google search for 79 explorer and it will show you proper placement, fore and aft, in relation to the marker light.
As far as stripes and interior patterns go, they vary from year to year.
I'm going to have to crank up my Google foo, because I've never seen anything above the side marker light on 73- 79. Except in that picture you just posted.
I too have a '79 F-150 Custom with the Explorer package, and it is indeed above the rear marker light. I have also noticed that the striping is unique to '79 as well, as i have shopped around trying to buy it to return my crappy white respray to Medium Vaquero mettallic with the explorer stripes.
Wow I have never ever seen the Explorer tag above the side marker light. And I mean NEVER ever on any truck ever. Not on the web or even in my local JY that had almost had 100 of them at one time. And there were a few Exployer's in there too. Guess they were all 78's.

I've been looking at pics of the Explorer decals and haven't seen any where the stripe gets wide like that at the back of the bed. I like it compared to the narrow stripe. Does it roll up over the edge under the bed protector?
